Our Story
Department of Junking is proud to offer specialized, affordable, and sustainable home clear-out and junk removal services. We are a sister company of Magpie Reclamations, a DC-area vintage furniture shop committed to keeping good furniture out of landfills.
Our diverse team is committed to recycling, upcycling, and rehoming items from your home in the most sustainable way possible. We work with local partners to rehome as many items as possible — rather than simply discard them in local landfills. Our sustainable practices mean up to 90% of potential home waste can be diverted.
We’re also experts in accurate planning and timing. Sometimes houses have got to be ready to sell yesterday — and we pride ourselves on confidently reaching that goal. Time travel excluded.
We’re based in the DC metro area and proud to operate in a city that takes its institutions seriously. The name is a joke — but the work isn’t.
The Mission
That’s not a marketing number — it’s what actually happens on a typical job. Our team sorts everything: furniture with resale value goes to Magpie Reclamations or our donation partners, materials get recycled, and only true waste gets disposed of.
